With this new facility, Washington State Patrol aims to produce a state of the art, multi-functional lab. The 35,000-square-foot forensic lab will be built in two phases, and will be a steel-frame building with brick veneer exterior. The project budget was generous and the design was in budget. This study was taked with identifying system alternatives that offer first-cost or life cycle cost benefits and/or improve project quality.
Key Proposals included:
- Revise roof to reduce concrete parapet height to reduce costs and structural complexity.
- Use a lighter-weight material at the top of the building to reduce cost and structural complexity.
