Cost Estimating

"We appreciate the effort your team made on North Franklin School District’s behalf.  There’s no doubt the building will improve as a result of that endeavor."

MENG Analysis offers “journeymen” level estimators who have a high level of field, office, and construction experience. Our estimators have not only estimated, but actually constructed dozens of buildings and civil projects and bring this real life field experience to the estimating table. They are also key players in MENG Analysis’ value analysis and constructability review teams.

Because of our estimators’ field construction experience, and experience reviewing projects at various stages of design (from conceptual phases through 100% design and construction) they are able to read between the lines and see what’s missing from a set of plans. This gives a unique perspective from a typical contractor or design firm—we are able to see what “should” be there and can extrapolate as to what the project will look like as the design progresses. This allows our specialists to make informed judgment calls and provide more accurate estimates.

We regularly use WinEst, Timberline, and Excel software estimating programs. Our staff are versed in both CSI and Uniformat estimating methodologies. Our cost estimating data if constantly updated to reflect changes not only in market conditions but prime commodities such as copper and steel. We have recently seen the impact of the volatility of these base commodities on construction inflation. Monitoring this volatility helps MENG Analysis to not only put the best possible current price on a job, but also offer valuable forward cost input on contingency costs that impact a job. Our contacts in the construction industry assist us in arriving at the most up-to-date and realistic prices obtainable.

MENG Analysis’ real field experience allows us to offer school districts guidance on avoiding overly complex and costly projects that may be unconstructable. It allows us to view construction scheduling from a realistic field approach. Much construction scheduling software frequently schedules a job utilizing a macro function and does not allow for delivery, weather, non-standard shifts, union issues, and impacts due to co-occupancy during construction. With the hands-on field background MENG Analysis incorporates in schedule development, all of these factors are taken into account to avoid schedule derailment.
