PROJECT DESCRIPTION

MENG Analysis completed a Sustainability/Feasibility Assessment for Seattle Public Schools (SPS) to assist in decision-making for the Building Technology Academics III levy funding. The goals of this study were to identify how six elementary schools (John Adams, John Hay, Leschi, John Muir, Olympic View, and West Woodland) could have the existing HVAC heat pump systems retrofitted with Energy Star heat pumps combined with a ground source geothermal water loop system.

Funding has been set aside for roof repairs or replacement. This study considered the use of Energy Star roofing materials and increased insulation where appropriate for each school. SPS had identified additional repairs and upgrades, some of which were itemized by the recent Facility Condition Assessment completed by MENG Analysis. These would be completed at the same time as the HVAC project. Improvements vary by school, but include lighting, flooring, signage, rain barrels, and bike rack shelters.

Part of the analysis was also the inclusion of possible solar panel installations and electric car recharge stations for each school site.
